The cable car (the Telecabina Tâmpa) takes visitors up the local mountain, Tâmpa, to one of the most beautiful viewpoint in Brasov (German: Kronstadt, Hungarian: Brasso).

From the top, you can enjoy an impressive view over the historic old town and the surrounding landscape. A viewpoint that is definitely worth experiencing when visiting the city.

The town of Zarnesti lies at the foot of the Piatra Craiului Mountains (Königstein). Located around 28 kilometres from Brasov (Kronstadt/Brasso), the town can be reached by car in 30–40 minutes and is a wonderful starting point for exploring the region’s natural beauty and mountain scenery.

Piatra Craiului National Park is the perfect place for walks through a spectacular mountain landscape. Particularly impressive are the Prapastiile Zarnestiului, a magnificent gorge with rock faces up to 200 metres high.

The mountain village of Magura, along with the mountain biking opportunities in the area, also make Zarnesti a rewarding destination for nature lovers.

The Schei Gate (Romanian: Poarta Schei) is situated in Brasov (Kronstadt), right next to the historic St Catherine’s Gate.

The gate was built in 1827 in the Neoclassical style and, with its three arches, resembles a small triumphal arch. A large central arch was used for vehicular traffic, whilst the two smaller side arches were intended for pedestrians.

The Black Church is one of the most famous landmarks of Brasov (German: Kronstadt) in Transylvania (German: Siebenbürgen).

Originally dedicated to the Virgin Mary, the church was a Catholic place of worship. With the Reformation in Transylvania, the Catholic dedication was abandoned. It has been known as the Black Church since the great city fire of 1689.

Homorod, known as Hamruden in German and Homoród in Hungarian, lies in the northern part of Brașov County, near Rupea. The commune includes three villages: Homorod, Jimbor (Sommerburg) and Mercheașa (Streitfort).

One of the most notable sights is the Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Peter, which was built in the 13th century. A powerful eight-storey fortified tower was later erected above the choir. The tower measures around 11 metres on each side, while its walls are up to three metres thick at ground level.

After a fire, the church nave received its present coffered ceiling in 1792. Together, the church and its imposing fortified tower remain an important example of medieval ecclesiastical architecture in this part of Transylvania.

Homorod lies on the Homorod River, formed by the confluence of the Homorodul Mare and Homorodul Mic rivers. The commune is around 60 kilometres from Brașov, close to the border with Harghita County.

The historic building on the main square dates back to its origins in the 15th century and is one of the most beautiful buildings in the center of the Old Town.

Just about 13 kilometres from Brașov lies the impressive Seven Ladders Canyon (Canionul Sapte Scari). It is easily accessible via Dambul Morii near Timișu de Jos, just off National Road DN1.

The trail to the canyon leads through the forest and takes about one hour on foot. The approximately 160-metre-long and 58-metre-high rocky canyon was carved into the limestone by the Valea Șurii de Piatră stream. When water levels are higher, the natural steps create impressive cascades and small waterfalls.

The route through the canyon leads across metal ladders and walkways. There are 9 ladders in total, with the highest reaching around 15 metres. Crossing the canyon is therefore not only a beautiful nature experience, but also a small adventure for anyone who is comfortable with heights and enjoys active outdoor experiences.

Rupea Fortress is located near the town of Rupea, about 50 km from Brasov, on the roadon the way to Targu Mures.It is one of the oldest fortress complexes in present-day Romania.

The fortress was built in the 11th century and is the landmark of the town of Rupea. It stands high above the town on Kohalm Hill (578 m) and can be seen from far away. The fortress was first mentioned in historical documents in 1324, when the Transylvanian Saxons fought against the King of Hungary.

In the foreground stands the Lupa Capitolina (Capitoline Wolf), while the historic Brașov City Hall rises in the background. The building, which now serves as the City Hall, was originally built as the Palace of Finance.

Location: The ensemble is located on Bulevardul Eroilor, next to Nicolae Titulescu Park, in the heart of Brasov.

The Capitoline Wolf: The bronze statue depicts the she-wolf nursing the twins Romulus and Remus. It is a replica of the famous original in Rome and is regarded as a symbol of the Romanian people’s Latin heritage.

Architecture: The building was constructed between 1897 and 1898. Its design combines Neo-Baroque architecture with Art Nouveau influences and reflects the architectural style of the former Austro-Hungarian Monarchy.

On the way from Brașov to Poiana Brasov, we looked to the right just before reaching our destination – and saw this beautiful view. Of course, we had to stop and take a photo!

One of the city’s most remarkable buildings stands on Bulevardul Eroilor (Heroes’ Boulevard). The building was constructed between 1900 and 1902 and originally served as the Royal Court of Justice (Palace of Justice).

✨ With its eclectic architecture and Neo-Baroque elements, it reflects the architectural style of the period.

🏢 Today, it houses the Brasov County Prefecture and the County Council.

Its striking dome, the beautiful facade and the square in front of the building make it a popular photo spot in the heart of Brasov (Kronstadt / Brasso).

The village of Viscri (known as Deutsch-Weisskirch in German and Szaszfeheregyhaza in Hungarian) is located in the Brasov County in Transylvania.

It is situated northwest of the town of Rupea and southeast of the city of Sighișoara. Between the 18th and 20th centuries, the village had about 700 inhabitants, mainly Transylvanian Saxons along with a Romanian community. Viscri is famous for its well-preserved fortified church and its traditional Saxon farmhouses.

The bakery “La Vatra Ardealului” located directly opposite the Black Church in Brasov (Strada Gheorghe Barițiu 14) is a true paradise where you can find a large variety of delicious pastries and cakes.

Impressions of a walk through the historic old town of Brasov (Kronstadt / Brasso), with a view of the BRASOV lettering on Mount Tampa.

The fortress on Straja Hill is a historic landmark that has watched over Brasov since the 15th century. It started as a simple watchtower but was expanded into the impressive horseshoe-shaped fortress we see today.

The history of the site is very interesting: it was used as a defense point, a prison for prisoners of war in the 18th century, and even as a hospital during the plague.

The fortress is currently closed for major renovations and will likely stay closed for the next few years. However, it is still worth walking up the hill. You can see the fortress from the outside, take great photos, and enjoy a beautiful view over the city.

The Council Square (also known as the “MarketSquare” by locals) is located in the heart of the old town of Brașov. It is a historic marketplace known for its charming merchant houses. The striking Old Town Hall in its center was built in 1420 and was once nicknamed the “Trumpet Tower” due to its watchtower.

The White Tower is an architectural highlight and offers one of the most beautiful panoramic views over the old town of Brasov. As a perfectly preserved example of medieval defensive architecture, it was built between 1460 and 1494 to protect the northern flank of the city walls. Today, this impressive structure houses a fascinating museum.

Dating back to the 16th century, the Catherine Gate in Brasov (Kronstadt/Brasso) is a historic city gate. It gets its name from a former nunnery named after Saint Catherine.

Four small turrets adorn the upper part of the building, symbolising the Jus Gladii – the medieval right of city leaders to impose capital punishment. The gate connected the Schei district with the old town of Brasov. (Photo from June 2026)

Originally, it was consecrated as a Catholic church dedicated to the Holy Virgin Mary. With the Reformation in Transylvania, which among the Transylvanian Saxon population was strongly influenced by the reformer and later parish priest of Brasov, Johannes Honterus, the Catholic patronage was abandoned. The church has borne the name “Black Church” since the great city fire of 1689.

In collaboration with Slow Food Buzau and Slow Food Prahova, a unique Slow Food & Experience event will take place this coming weekend (June 13–14, 2026) at Ferma Dacilor (Gura Vadului, 107300 Tohani, Prahova County).

The program includes master classes on cheese, cheese tastings, wine tastings, live cooking demonstrations, products from local producers, artisanal goods, activities for children, and much, much more.

The Black Church and the famous “BRASOV” sign on the mountain are the top two landmarks of Brasov / Kronstadt!

The Sphinx (in Romanian Sfinxul) is a natural rock formation located in the Bucegi Mountains*, at an altitude of approximately 2,215 meters.

*The Bucegi Mountains are located south of the city of Brașov, on the eastern edge of the Southern Carpathians in Romania. (Images from 2 June 2026 )

The dinopark with the same name is just a few meters away from the Rasnov Castle (in the Brasov district). Life-size dinosaurs, multimedia presentations, a history museum, a “real” volcano and much, much more invite both children and adults to a fun and informative visit.

These images showcase the Nicolae Titulescu Park, which borders the historic old town of Kronstadt (Brașov) directly to the north. Just a short distance further, on the opposite side of the park, the imposing Citadel of Brasov can be seen perched on the hill.

A picture from yesterday evening (May 19, 2026). It rained later on, and the weather is supposed to stay changeable today and over the next few days.

This Tower of the Old Town Hall served as an important watchtower for the city for centuries. From high above, trumpeters announced the passing hours and used their signals to warn citizens of approaching dangers.

Rupea Fortress (German: Repser Burg) is located near the town of Rupea (German: Reps), about 50 km from Brașov (Kronstadt) – on the way to Târgu Mureș – and is one of the oldest fortresses in Romania.

One thing you shouldn’t miss in Kronstadt (Brasov) is the climb (either via the Gabony Steps or the 25 winding paths from the old town; the walk takes approx. 1 hour 30 mins) up to Tampa Hill, at an altitude of 960 metres.

Right next to the BRASOV sign, there is a wonderful view over the city and the surrounding region.

Of course, you can also take the gondola/cable car, but you’ll have to factor in not only the cost but also potentially longer waiting times (at weekends).

This impressive view of the Postavarul Massif is one of the most striking in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. This photo captures one of the best panoramic views of the mountains from Predeal.

The massif belongs to the Postavaru Mountains, which are located next to the Barsa Mountains, and reaches 1,799 metres at the Varful Postavaru peak. Just a short distance from Brasov, this area is a true paradise for hikers and nature lovers.

Spring arrives in Kronstadt, and by May, the whole area is covered in lush greenery again. Anyone who has visited Kronstadt or plans to do so will quickly notice the abundance of green spaces in and around the city. In just a few minutes, you can find yourself surrounded by nature on the local mountain, Tampa, or high up in the mountains of Poiana Brasov (known in German as Schulerau).

A look at one of the best-preserved medieval fortifications in Transylvania.
Built between 1421 and 1436 by the Weavers’ Guild to defend the city, it served as both a defensive structure and a warehouse. Today, it houses a historical museum, and its courtyard is renowned for its excellent acoustics, making it a unique venue for concerts and cultural events.
