Oktoberfest Romania
Why is Oktoberfest held in September?
A German law from 1539 stipulated that beer could only be brewed between 29 September and 23 April, because during the summer the risk of fires during the brewing process was much higher. Lacking the storage conditions we have today, brewers had to sell all of that year’s beer before they could start producing new beer. Oktoberfest starts around 20 September and ends on the first Sunday in October.
But why is it called Oktoberfest when it takes place, except for the last 2-3 days, in September? Well, the name, which the Princess Bride chose very inspirationally, relates to the period when the festival first took place: 12-17 October 1810. This tradition was changed in 1872, when it was decided that the weather in October was too cold for such an outdoor event.
