Oktoberfest Romania 2024 in Brasov | 29 August to 15 September

Why does the Oktoberfest take place at the end of August or in September?

A German law from 1539 stipulated that beer could only be brewed between 29 September and 23 April, as the risk of fire during the brewing process was much higher in summer. In the absence of today’s storage conditions, brewers had to sell all of that year’s beer before they could start producing new beer. The Oktoberfest in Germany therefore begins around 20 September and ends on the first Sunday in October.

But why is it actually called Oktoberfest if, apart from the last 2-3 days, it takes place in September? The first Oktoberfest took place from 12 to 17 October 1810. This tradition was changed in 1872 when it was decided that the weather in October was too cold for such an outdoor event. So why is it even earlier in Kronstadt? Quite simply so that all visitors can enjoy BOTH Oktoberfests without any problems 😊
