Rasnov Fortress

Just 15km from Brasov is the Râșnov Castle, one of the best fortified fortresses in Transylvania. It has a strategic location as it was used for military purposes; it is surrounded by forest and sits on the top of a cliff and access is by both serpentine and takes about 15 minutes walk.

In the approximately 3500sqm of surface there are both an outer and an inner courtyard, the outer one offering a wonderful view over the town of Râșnov, a town that is often mentioned in various attestations throughout history. What is fascinating about this place is that a treasure has been discovered in the outer courtyard hidden for more than 400 years, a treasure consisting of knives, buckles, arrowheads, 416 silver coins minted between 1509-1610 and much more.

As for what the fortress contains, we can mention the interior of the fortress and the Museum of Feudal Art where various objects such as weapons, period furniture and even a torture mask are on display. Tourists can buy souvenirs and sit on the terrace set up in the fortress. Last but not least, the fortress hosted the filming of the movie Cold Mountain starring Nicole Kidman and Jude Law.

Râșnov Dino Park

Just a few metres from Rashnov Castle (in Brasov county) is the dinopark of the same name.

Life-size dinosaurs, multimedia displays, a history museum, a “real” volcano and much, much more invite both children and adults for a fun and informative visit.
