The fortress of Brasov | Cetatea Brasovului 😍😍🇷🇴

The fortress of Brasov (Kronstadt in German) is a fortification built on Straja Hill in the 15th century to repel enemy attacks.

Throughout its history, it has been attacked and rebuilt again and again and was even an important defence point during the First World War. Originally, there was only the fortress tower. From 1630-1631, the outer fortress was built. The horseshoe-shaped central tower has three storeys and served several purposes over the centuries: it was used as a storehouse, was a prison for Turkish prisoners in the 18th century and later, during the plague, a special ward was set up for the sick.

What you should not miss in Brasov is the ascent (the hike, approx. 1 hr. 30 min.) to Varful Tampa at 960 metres above sea level.
Right next to the BRASOV sign, there is a wonderful view over the city and the neighbouring region.
If you want, you can of course also take the gondola, but apart from the costs, you will also have to put up with very long waiting times at times (at weekends).
White Tower | Brasov 😍😍🇷🇴

If you want to see the entire old town from high above and have a dreamlike view in front of your eyes, you should definitely come here.
The White Tower was built between 1460 and 1494 and still impresses with the massiveness and suppleness of its architectural lines. Its architecture consists of an open, semi-circular plan, with a height difference of 30 m from the city wall, a height of 20 m towards the city and 18 m towards the hill. Learn more …

Shortly after leaving Brasov in the direction of Sinaia (Bucharest), turn left towards the Sapte Scări gorge.
It’s a good hour’s walk to the gorge or the Seven Stairs, which is crossed by a stream with clear, cold water, lots of nature and also… butterflies.
