The Brasov Fortress (Kronstadt in German) is a fortification built in the 15th century on Straja Hill to repel enemy attacks.

Throughout its history it has been repeatedly attacked and rebuilt and was even an important defense point during the First World War. Originally there was only the fortress tower. The outer fortress was built between 1630 and 1631. The horseshoe-shaped central tower has three floors and has served multiple purposes over the centuries: it served as a warehouse, was a prison for Turkish prisoners in the 18th century and later, during the plague, a special ward was created for the sick.

What you should not miss in Brasov is the ascent (the hike, about 1 hr. 30 min.) to Varful Tampa at 960 meters above sea level.
Right next to the BRASOV sign there is a wonderful view over the city and the surrounding region.
Who wants can of course also go by gondola, but must accept besides the cost also at times very long waiting times (on weekends).

Shortly after the end of Brasov in the direction of Sinaia (Bucharest), turn left to the gorge Sapte Scari (Seven Ladders).
It is a good one-hour walk to the gorge or the seven ladders, which is lined by a stream with clear, cold water and a lot of nature and also ... butterflies.

Besides many, many interested visitors and guests, Vlad III Draculea, the former voivode of Wallachia and also known as Vlad the Impaler / Vlad Tepes, surprised the fortress with his visit.
The festival "Festivalul Cavalerii Teutoni se întorc" took place last weekend (Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September) in the fortress Feldioara | Marienburg.

About 20 km from Brasov (German name Kronstadt), on the way to Bran, lies Rașnov (German name Rosenau).
A small town with about 15.000 Inhabitants, a fortress and a dinosaur park. In the 14th century the fortress was built above the town on the limestone rocks and in 1623 and 1640 it was extended with a well 80 Klafter (a historical German measure of length, 80 Klafter are about 140 meters) deep.
The Rasnov Dinopark is located right next to the fortress. So nothing prevents you from having a wonderful family day out.

Peles Castle was built between 1873 and 1883 on the initiative of Carol I (Karl I of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen), the first Romanian king.
It is located about 1.5 km northwest of the town of Sinaia in Prahova County.
